Newgate Calendar: A publication, started in the late eighteenth century, containing accounts of the lives, trials and last days in Newgate, of criminals. Fagin's last night alive is spent in Newgate (Chapter 52), and Dickens was always fascinated by the prison, which appears again in Sketches by Boz.
