Policies and Procedures
  • Be prepared to learn. Have notebooks open, textbooks handy, pen in hand, and be in your seat when the bell rings.

  • Support your learning environment.  Comb your hair, put on your make-up, get a drink, eat a snack before or after class. Pick up your trash. Don't write or carve on your desks or put yucky gum you've chewed underneath them!

  • Honor your teacher and your fellow students. Don't be rude or discourteous. Remove all hats and electronic devices before you enter the classroom. Don't' use four letter words. Profanity is the mark of a lazy mind!

  • Choose to succeed. Turn your work in on time. Make up your assignments when you're absent. Study for your tests.

  • Blank lined notebook paper

  • Pens, pencils and a highlighter

  • Appropriate textbook(s). You should bring your literature textbook every A and B day and your library book (for reading workshop) every C day unless told otherwise.

Grading:

Your grade each nine weeks is comprised of a variety of quizzes, class work and homework assignments, tests, and projects. Tests and projects count much more than in class assignments. You need to study for this class.  The breakdown:

       Daily Work                                    45%

       Quizzes, Tests, and Projects      40%

       Nine Weeks Test                         15%

Standard Rules for Assignments:

1.    On each assignment, write the following in the upper right hand corner of your paper:  Line 1:  Your name; Line 2:  Period number; Line 3:  The date.

2.   At the left hand margin, write the name of the assignment (i.e., Vocabulary #1).  Skip a line and begin the actual assignment.

3.   Unless I tell you otherwise, write your answers in complete sentences for all assignments.  Correct your spelling and grammar

Make Up Work

All reading assignments and work for which you receive a grade are listed in two places: (1) on the chalkboard next to the main door to my classroom, (2) on the Hanks web site on my web page:

 http://www2.yisd.net/education/staff/staff.php?sectionid=8133
or

http://www.mrsbaggett.com

You may email me with questions about assignments, but you will be responsible for turning your work in on time whether or not I respond to your (usually last minute) email. I do not check email after 5:00 p.m. My email address is jbaggett@yisd.net.

 Excused Absences

If you have an excused absence, you have 2 class periods after your absence to make up your work with no penalty for lateness, unless extenuating circumstances warrant additional time.  Please see me before or after school to obtain your makeup work and to discuss problems. You can also check my web page for information about makeup assignments.  It is YOUR responsibility to obtain make-up assignments and to copy any class notes you missed from one of your classmates.  Any make-up work not completed in the specified time period follows late assignment rules.  You must mark “Excused Absence" on your make-up work, along with your name, period and the date you hand in the work.

 Unexcused Absences

Makeup work for unexcused absences is considered late.  Late assignment rules apply.  It is YOUR responsibility to obtain make-up assignments from me before or after school and to copy any class notes you missed from one of your classmates.  You must mark “Late" on your makeup work, along with your name, period and the date you hand in the work.

 Late Assignments

If an assignment is not turned in by the due date, it is considered late.  Assignments handed in one class period late receive a maximum grade of 70; assignments handed in two or more class periods late receive a maximum grade of 50.  TURN YOUR WORK IN ON TIME!!!
